Lightroom Classic Profiles - Toned Mono

£0.00Price

Black and white with a hint of toning, at the strength you choose

A good black-and-white print rarely left the darkroom completely neutral. A few minutes in selenium deepened and cooled the blacks, and a bath of sepia warmed the greys. The toning was slight, but it made the print look deliberate rather than simply desaturated.

Toned Mono is a free set of 15 black-and-white profiles for Lightroom Classic and Adobe Camera Raw. Each one converts the photograph to black and white and adds a hint of toning from its own colour lookup table. They work on raw files, TIFFs and JPEGs, and the Amount slider controls the toning alone, so 0 gives a plain black-and-white conversion and 200 doubles the tone.

I made them for photographers who print, enter competitions or simply like a black and white with some character. Ten are based on traditional darkroom toners and printing processes, from selenium to platinum. Five are modern, including the cold SP_Cool Steel and the muted SP_Olive.

What the download includes

  • 15 profiles in their own SP_Toned Mono group in the Profile Browser

  • Each profile switches the photograph to Black & White, so the B&W Mix sliders stay available and the toning stays in place while you use them

  • An Amount slider on every profile, where 0 gives a plain black-and-white conversion, 100 applies the toning as designed and 200 doubles it

  • Support for raw, TIFF and JPEG files in both Lightroom Classic and Camera Raw

  • A 5-page PDF guide to installing the profiles on Windows and macOS, using them, and fixing the common problems

  • Before and after previews of every profile

The fifteen profiles

SP_Warm Sepia, SP_Soft Sepia, SP_Selenium, SP_Platinum, SP_Palladium, SP_Gold Toned, SP_Cyanotype, SP_Copper, SP_Split Sepia, SP_Albumen, SP_Cool Steel, SP_Olive, SP_Rose Mono, SP_Slate and SP_Teal Mono.

Installation takes about a minute. In the Develop module, open the Profile Browser, click the + icon, choose Import Profiles and select the ZIP file. Lightroom Classic and Camera Raw share the same settings folder, so in most set-ups the profiles appear in both.

Download them free, then try SP_Selenium and SP_Platinum on the same photograph to see how far apart two hints of toning can be.
