Test Your Adobe Photoshop Knowledge With My Free Quiz

Photoshop rewards habit. You reach for the same three or four tools, build the layer stack as you always have, and the file comes out looking the way you intended. That is a perfectly sound way to work, and it is also the reason most of us quietly stopped learning the programme years ago. The parts you never open simply stay dark.

This quiz turns the lights on. It draws 30 questions at random from a bank of 250, spread across eight areas of Photoshop, from layers and masking through to Camera Raw, retouching, colour management and the generative tools. Score 75% or higher to download a certificate. It is free, takes about 15 minutes, and requires no account to create.

Answers are shuffled every time, and the four options are written to a similar length, so a second attempt is a genuine second attempt rather than a memory test. Enter your name and email below to begin, and you will get your result and a breakdown by topic as soon as you finish.

What The Quiz Covers

The 250 questions are divided into eight sections. Every attempt pulls from all of them, so you will always get a spread rather than 30 questions on the same subject.

Layers, Groups And Smart Objects Fill

against opacity, clipping masks, group blending, Blend If, layer comps, and the difference between an embedded and a linked Smart Object. The foundations everything else is built on.

Selections and Masking, Object Selection,

Select and Mask, layer masks against vector masks, luminosity masks from the channels, and Colour Range. The section that separates a clean cut-out from an obvious one.

Camera Raw And Global Adjustments

The Basic panel, curves, HSL, colour grading, sharpening and lens corrections. Where a raw file is either set up properly or quietly compromised.

Retouching And Repair Tools

Healing against cloning, frequency separation, dodge and burn, Content-Aware Fill, Liquify and Puppet Warp. Portrait work and landscape tidying alike.

Colour, Blend Modes And Adjustment Layers

What each blend mode actually does, which colour is neutral in it, and how the adjustment layers differ from the menu commands that share their names.

Keyboard Shortcuts And Workflow Speed

The shortcuts that change how fast you can work, rather than the full list nobody memorises. Windows key names throughout.

Saving, Exporting And Colour Management File formats,

resampling, output sharpening, profiles, rendering intents and soft proofing. The section people are most confident about and score worst on.

Generative AI, Neural Filters And Troubleshooting

Generative Fill and Expand, the Neural Filters, Content Credentials, and the everyday faults that stop a session dead. What has actually gone wrong, and what merely looks as though it has.

How The Scoring Works

Each question has one correct answer and three incorrect ones, and the four are shuffled on every attempt. There is no time limit and no penalty for a wrong answer, so there is nothing to gain from rushing.

The pass mark is 75%, which is 23 out of 30 questions. Pass, and you can download a certificate with your name on it. Below that, you will still get a full breakdown showing which of the eight sections cost you marks, along with the correct answer to everything you got wrong. That breakdown is the useful part. Most people find their weakest section is not the one they expected.

Who The Quiz Is For

I wrote these questions for photographers who already use Photoshop and want an honest measure of where they stand. It is not an introduction to the software. If you have never made a layer mask, this will be a frustrating 15 minutes.

If you have been using it for years and have never had cause to find out what you do not know, that is precisely who it is for. Have a go and see where you land.

There is a companion quiz for the Lightroom Classic Quiz if you would rather test the other half of the workflow.
